Emeli Sandé is set for her US breakthrough in 2013!

When your influences include Nina Simone and Lauryn Hill and you’ve received praises from Alicia Keys and Adele, you’ve got to come with something special. In 2013, Emeli Sandé is set to show you just what that something is that has those superstars singing her praises.

Emeli Sandé a monster year in 2012 in the UK; her debut album, Our Version of Events, was the biggest-selling of the year in the there with over 1.43 million sold. Sandé also broke records. According to The Official Charts Company, Sandé’s debut delivered the most number of consecutive weeks in the Top 10 for a solo artist; 47 weeks to be exact. She is the first solo artist and only act second to The Beatles to accomplish such a feat. The album has spent seven weeks in the top spot and currently sets at number two.

Sandé, who is a former medical student, first blazed the charts with collaborations with rappers Chipmunk in 2009 on his hit “Diamond Rings” and Wiley on his tune “Never Be Your Woman” in 2010. She also wrote jams for artists such as: Cheryl Cole, Tinie Tempah, Leona Lewis, and Susan Boyle. Sandé’s skills with the pen even prompted Simon Cowell to note her as his favorite songwriter of the moment. Not long after her success with Wiley, Sandé signed a publishing deal with EMI Music Publishing in 2010 and then a record deal with Virgin Records. Her first single “Heaven” was released in August of 2011. Other hits of hers include “Next To Me” and “Daddy.” Sandé has been nominated and won several awards. She performed during the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the London Olympics. She has experienced critical and commercial success which will only grow in the coming year, and one of the reasons you should know her.
